SHOT TOWER
This remarkable 58 m high National Trust listed tower is Kingston's main attraction.
The city's main attraction is this remarkable tower, listed by the National Trust. The Shot Tower is a 58m high circular tower completed in 1870 by Joseph Moir. It was built from 4,000 bricks from a disused convict quarry. It was used to manufacture the lead used in the cartridges of firearms. It is the only circular gun tower in the Southern Hemisphere and the only one preserved in excellent condition. The National Estate has recognized the importance of the tower as a fascinating example of industrial archaeology.
