THE CATARACT THROAT
Site located in Launceston featuring steep gorges, a vast meadow, an open-air swimming pool and the Gorge Restaurant.
The waters of the South Esk River flow through these steep gorges before joining those of the Tamar. The site is criss-crossed by several pleasant trails, including one that runs along the upper reaches of the gorge, and has been developed for leisure and sightseeing at a large basin (First Basin). This vast meadow, very popular with locals, features an open-air swimming pool and the Gorge Restaurant, as well as a superb flower garden with century-old rhododendrons. Children (and adults) will love the local chairlift.

A tiny chairlift allows you to cross the gorge. The arrival on the other east coast a bit disappointing because there is a public swimming pool with tobogans. And then walk back is worth exploring the rocks, fauna and flora.
I was there in May and the weather was still very nice!
