The idea of an Australian transcontinental railroad dates back to the late 19th century, but technical and financial challenges delayed its completion. The first section of the railroad, from Kalgoorlie to Perth, was completed in 1917. The crucial section from Port Augusta to Kalgoorlie was completed in 1917, linking eastern and western Australia. However, differences in rail gauges between the states were still a problem. It wasn't until 1970 that track gauges were standardized, enabling the creation of a continuous train service between Sydney and Perth.
Luxurious sleeper cars with private bathrooms, excellent food, drinks and alcohol on demand, attentive staff - it's an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience!
