Site allowing to take advantage of a very beautiful panorama on the village of Saint-Floret below and the pailhats
At an altitude of 580 meters, the Romanesque church of Chastel with its bell tower and slate roof stands in the middle of the cemetery. Nearby, an ossuary characteristic of the sepulchral chapels of the5th century. Over the years, it has received the bones of the deceased who could not all fit into the sarcophaguses dug out of the rock in the Carolingian era and which give this site a singular majesty. You will also enjoy a beautiful panorama of the village of Saint-Floret below and the pailhats, these ancient terraces with low stone walls for the cultivation of the vine. To get to the Chastel site, cross the pretty 16th century Pède bridge, with its oratory housing a 12th century polychrome wooden Virgin. Take on the left the small path which will offer you superb points of view on the village or continue on the right by the road. It is also possible to reach the site by car.
