ABROLHOS ISLANDS

Around 60 km off the coast of Geraldton, this archipelago of 122 islands, often described as "The Galapagos of the Indian Ocean", is a haven of biodiversity, and has sunk several ships on its rocky shores, including the famous Batavia. Before venturing out to the islands, visit the Geraldton Museum to discover the tragic story of the shipwreck here on June 4, 1629. 208 survivors took refuge on the islet known as the "Batavia Graveyard" (now Beacon Island). An unprecedented massacre began. Possibility of diving to see the wreck.
You can't stay on the archipelago, but you can visit a few places and take a tour to admire the beauty of the coral. Its crystal-clear waters make it a place not to be missed on your visit to Geraldton. Animal life, both in the sea and in the sky, is extraordinary. Some of the islands are essential breeding grounds for several endangered bird species, including noddy shearwaters. Sea lions are also present, as are dolphins and whales during their migration.
Eco Abrolhos offers accommodation on their boats for 3 to 5 nights. The archipelago is also renowned for its fishing, and a number of companies offer outings where good catches are almost guaranteed, but so is the beauty of the trip! Scenic flights over the islands are organized by Shine Aviation or Kalbarri Scenic Flights. A great opportunity to see the archipelago from the air.
