GORGE SLABS
Fabulous site at Karijini National Park to find a 12 km long, 100 m deep gorge and 3 natural pools
This gorge, 12 km long and 100 m deep, is one of the places not to be missed in Karijini. Access is by parking in the Dales day use area . You can then embark on your tour, which involves walking 2-3 km one way (allow 3 hours for the full 5 km loop) along a well-signposted path to reach the 3 main natural pools:
Circular Pool: just off the parking lot, Circular Pool is reached by a slightly steep descent to this refreshing natural swimming pool;
Fortescue Falls: the permanent waterfalls are impressive for their contrast with the earth and glowing rocks. The descent is relatively easy and safe (there's also a parking lot nearby for those who want to go straight down);
Fern Pool: continue on from Fortescue Falls. A natural pool with turquoise water reflected by rocks and greenery, including magnificent fig trees with their oversized roots. The waterfalls are not permanent. About 2 km from the parking lot.
End your day with a magnificent view from Three Ways Lookout. To get there, take the short 100 m path from the Circular Pool parking lot.
For those who want to make the most of this fabulous place, don't hesitate to camp at Dales Campground. You'll need to book in advance on the Parks WA website, as it's very busy between June and September.
