MANGKAJA ARTS
Site representing Aboriginal artists from four nations, some of whom are internationally renowned for their innovative style.
Mangkaja Arts represents Aboriginal artists from four nations: the Bunuba and Gooniyandi, river people, and the Walmajarri and Wangkajunga, sand dune people of the Great Sandy Desert. Some of these painters are internationally renowned, and have an innovative and contemporary style with broad brushstrokes and vivid colors. These artists are also known for painting huge canvases in 1996, the Ngurrara canvases, which were used as evidence in the Federal Court of Justice for the restitution of their traditional lands.
