BASILICA DI SAN SIMPLICIO
A remarkable Romanesque basilica, the most emblematic building of Olbia and one of the most important in the Gallura.
This remarkable Romanesque basilica is the most emblematic building in Olbia and one of the most important in Gallura, if not in the whole of Sardinia. Impressive for a building of that period, it was erected in granite in the 11th and 12th centuries. Its façade shows a Tuscan and Lombard influence from the same period. Remains of Romanesque frescoes from the 13th century still decorate the interior walls. It is dedicated to the patron saint of the town.
