NECROPOLI DI MONTALE
Necropolis of the center of Sassari, being part of the important prenuragic sites in the region
This necropolis, 4 km from the centre of Sassari, is one of the most important pre-nuragic sites in the Sassari region. Discovered by chance in 1982, the architectural complex dates back to the culture of Ozieri (around 3300 BC). The necropolis includes six domus de janas-type hypogeums dug into a rock outcrop. Of these tombs, only the last two have retained their original structure. The others were converted into shelters at a later date. Tomb 5 is the most interesting, as the ornamental bas-reliefs are still visible.
