PIAZZA D'ITALIA
Neoclassical and neogothic palaces at the gates of the medieval heart
Piazza d'Italia is majestic with its palaces, including the imposing Palazzo della Provincia in neoclassical style or the neo-gothic Palazzo Giordano. In the centre of the square, from the palm trees emerges the statue of Vittorio Emanuele II who watches over the wanderings of passers-by. The engineer Enrico Marchesi carefully thought out the location of this new square, which was intended to be the "living room" of the city. The square is located at the gates of the medieval heart and along the Via Roma, the axis that connected Porto Torres to Cagliari in Roman times.
