CHIESA DI SAN MICHELE
Church with a dome covered with multicolored tiles, one of the most beautiful examples of Baroque style
This church, built in 1364, is one of the most beautiful examples of Baroque style in Sardinia. Its dome covered with multicoloured glazed tiles symbolizes the city itself. St. Michael, patron saint of the town of Alghero, is represented in the church several times overthrowing Satan. He appears in one of the paintings, and two statues are on display in the chapel and in the Diocesan Museum. The church served as a cathedral until Santa Maria was completed. It was extensively rebuilt in the 17th century, giving it its Baroque character.
