CATTEDRALE DELL'IMMACOLATA CONCEZIONE
Cathedral with a wide nave and 4 side chapels mixing baroque and neoclassical styles
The present cathedral was built between 1804 and 1809 on the ruins of a Romanesque church. It mixes Baroque and Neoclassical styles, both on the façade and inside. The wide nave is flanked by four side chapels. You will note the mural temperas representing Dante's Paradise and made by the Parmesan artist Emilio Scherer. The church has become a cathedral to the detriment of that of San Pietro, a Romanesque church which is a few kilometres away on the opposite bank.
