CASTELLO DEL MONTIFERRU
Castle with a beautiful view of the mountains and the town of Cuglieri
The remains of this12th-century castle stand atop a basalt hill just outside the village of Cuglieri. Its defensive position did not prevent it from falling into the hands of the judge of Arborea, then into those of the Aragonese crown. Once the island had been pacified, the castle served no military purpose and became private property. It was finally abandoned in 1670. The ruins of the castle afford a superb view of the mountains and the town of Cuglieri. The surrounding landscape is characterized by scrubland and chestnut woods.
