CHIESA DI SAN LUSSORIO
Medieval church with the tomb of a Sardinian martyr from the time of Diocletian
This medieval church built in the 12th century by the monks of Saint-Victor de Marseille is one of the Romanesque jewels of Sardinia. After a collapse in the 13th century, the south wall and the roof were rebuilt. The Aragonese added their touch by reworking the façade in the 14th century. But it is the mosaics in the crypt that deserve attention. They date from the5th century and cover the tomb of San Lussorio, a Sardinian martyr from the time of Diocletian. He was beheaded for having recited Christian psalms, although a law forbade it.
