CAPO SANDALO
Cap Sandalo hosts an Italian association protecting birds on the western tip of the island
At 107 m above sea level, the Cape Sandalo lookout dominates the western tip of the island. The sunsets are unforgettable. From here you can also do a session of bird watching by inquiring at the kiosk of the Oasi Lipu, the Italian association that protects birds (www.lipu.it). Going down to Cala Fico you reach the favourite shelter of the Queen's falcons, the protected species for which the island of San Pietro is known. An enormous rock made of grey trachyte in the shape of a fig, a few metres from the coast, is home to dozens of them.
