OASI LIPU
Protected area at the corner of the cliff with a large colony of queen hawks
In the summer, the Italian League for the Protection of Birds organizes falcon-watching trips. This 6 kilometre long cliff corner is home to a large colony of Queen's falcons. It was declared a protected area in 2011, to watch over the hundred or so pairs that come here to nest every summer. Amateur ornithologists have been observing and preserving the nests from poaching since 1980. The name of this bird of prey comes from Queen Eleonora d'Arborea who, 6 centuries ago, declared the falcons a "protected species". For nature lovers.
