Every year, the Sardinians put on their traditional garb to commemorate the island's patron saint, Sant'Efisio, who died as a martyr.

Every May1st , Sardinia meets in traditional costume to pay homage to Efisio, the patron saint of the island, who died as a martyr in the time of Diocletian. In 1656, the Sardinians invoked him to save the island from the plague. The miracle happened and, since then, Cagliari organizes a great procession that leaves from the district of Stampace to the beach of Nora, repeating the route of Efisio from his prison to the place of his death. Oxcarts, knights, launeddas players walk through streets strewn with rose petals following the statue of the saint.
