SARDINIA RADIO TELESCOPE
The Sardinian radio telescope is a scientific facility managed by the Nazionale nazionale di astrofisica (National Institute of Astrophysics) to make high-level astronomical observations. For this he uses a parabolic antenna with state-of-the-art instrumentation and instrumentation. The manufacturing of the mechanical parts and their on-site assembly were carried out in 2003. But it had to wait until August 2012 for the whole to be validated and put into service. This radio telescope is therefore very recent and is still in the upgrade phase according to the needs and expectations of the scientists. If you are traveling on SP 25, somewhere between Cagliari and San Basilio, you may not believe your eyes by discovering this giant antenna located near the road! With its 64 m diameter, it is made up of 1,008 mobile aluminum panels capable of detecting very low signals from the distant universe, and some atypical objects such as pulsars (high-dense rotational stars) and quasars (primitive galaxies). But its assignment is not confined to these objects, since it will allow the study of the movements of the Earth's crust and to monitor certain bodies near the Earth (space debris in particular).
