TORRE DI SAN PANCRAZIO
Tour, rich in history, at the top of a high point of Cagliari.
The tower of St. Pancras was built in 1305 by the architect Giovanni Capula to protect the northern access to the Castello. Erected at the top of the highest point of the town and 36 metres high, it allowed the enemy to be seen from afar. In 1328 it was transformed into a mess for officers and a storage point. In the 17th century, the tower became a prison. It was not until the 20th century that it regained its original appearance: the wall on the old town side was demolished, the structure was reinforced and some of its defensive features were highlighted.
