MUSEO ARCHEOLOGICO NAZIONALE
The most important Nuraghic collection in the world in an archaeological museum in Cagliari.
The rich past of Sardinia bequeaths an archaeological museum that contains the most important Nuraghic collection in the world. The exhibits come from private and public collections and constitute an invaluable heritage. The museography is conceived around thematic itineraries distributed on 4 floors, and it has nothing dusty, which makes this museum a place of memory and culture very modern (high-tech).
First floor. The exhibits present the history of the Sardinians from the Neolithic to the early Middle Ages. The visitor crosses the different cultures that have shaped the island, admiring some of the most beautiful testimonies of these different periods.
Second floor. On this floor there are two themes: the ancient past of Cagliari and the important Nuraghic sites. The first part highlights the evolution of the city through the exploration of the sites of Tuvexiddu, Santa Gilla and Monte Claro.
Second floor. The visitor explores the most beautiful archaeological sites of the island including Monte Sirai, Sant'Antioco, Bithia and Nora. Important works of art are displayed alongside minor pieces and allow the visitor to travel from prehistoric times to the Roman era.
Third floor. This floor is dedicated to the Nuraghic statues found on the site of Mont'e Prama: exceptional! An interactive installation allows to learn to distinguish the different types of statues and their uses. This floor also hosts the temporary exhibitions.
