SPIAGGIA DEL POETTO
Beautiful and busy beach with a discotheque gathering the local youth
It cannot be compared to the beaches of Chia or Villasimius, but the long beach of Poetto allows you to enjoy the sea close to the town centre. It is a pity that its white and very fine sand used to be coarser today. It has been mixed with sand taken from the bottom of the sea following an operation to enlarge the beach. The operation, known as ripascimento, has been much criticized by the inhabitants of Cagliari, who still can't forgive the town hall for having changed its appearance. This beautiful beach opens widely on the bay of Cagliari and protects the salt marshes of Molentargius. Mostly frequented by locals, it is the bus stops that distinguish its different areas. For example, the most fashionable area is the prima fermata (first stop). There are kayak, sailing, windsurfing and yacht clubs. Il Poetto is very lively in the evening. The Cagliaritans go out both in summer and winter at the passeggiata time. The beach kiosks are open all year round. They sell panianari de cavalluccio, also calledcaddozzi. In the summer, young Cagliaritans go to the Ilido discotheque, or to the Sax Beach. In winter, the JKO brings together the local youth. During the summer, Poetto is also one of the stages of the Italian beach volleyball championship, which arrives at the sesta fermata with a real village, where everyone can participate. The itinerant beach rugby and beach football tournaments are also held here.
