Tomb of black granite housing in the small church of Nostra Signora delle Solitudine
Grazia Deledda's grave is in the small church of Nostra Signora della Solitudine, just outside the town. The Sardinian writer used to come here to meditate and it is here that she was buried after her death in 1936. The black granite tomb is set in a niche on the right of the central path. Grazia Deledda was the only Italian woman writer to be awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1926. Grazia Deledda's work draws its inspiration from the Sardinia of her youth, interweaving the themes of love, pain and death.
