Mount Ortobene with a bronze statue with a splendid view over the valley

Mount Ortobene, with its 995 meters, is the mascot of Nuoro. This granite trapezium proudly dominates the city with its steep slopes and holm oak forests. The road twists and turns for 5 km to reach the summit. A few dozen meters before the arrival, the view is splendid on the valley, Oliena and the limestone bar of Supramonte (the Sardinian Vercors). On the summit plateau, you have to go to the sales stands and take the path on the right at the last bend. It leads to the statue of the Redentore, the Redeemer, which dominates the town of Nuoro. From here, the view of the peaks of Barbagia is truly breathtaking, you can't miss the Gennargentu massif, and Punta la Marmora, the highest peak on the island, which rises to 1,834 meters. This is a must-see excursion because of the splendid panorama it offers and also because of the strange shapes - human and animal - of its erratic rocks that you discover on the way up to the summit. We strongly recommend a stroll on the small plateau of the summit which is very lively in the evening. Many inhabitants of Nuoro come here to spend the end of the day in the summer, and it seems to be the most animated place in the city at sunset. There is even a playground for children. You can go around and go back down to Nuoro from the other side (south) which also offers beautiful views. Don't miss, on the left, about 2 km below, an amazing troglodytic sheepfold. A pilgrimage to make!
