High limestone plateau offering many excursions of different duration and difficulty

Plateaus, gorges and sheer cliffs are lost on the horizon, a continent apart that will fascinate you and help you discover the green and white heart of the Nuorese. The Supramonte massif covers an area of 35,000 ha, so vast that it encompasses the territories of five towns: Dorgali, Oliena and Orgosolo in Barbagia, Baunei and Urzulei in Ogliastra, and part of the Gulf of Orosei.

The Supramonte is an ancient mountain complex that surrounds the higher, younger Gennergentu massif. A complex characterized by limestone plateaus and dolines, overhangs and forests, caves and springs, inhabited since prehistoric times and dotted with pre-nuragic and nuragic sites. The landscape has uniformly distinctive features: huge ramparts and high cliffs alternating with deep canyons, rocky peaks rising to the sky. Its highest point is Mount Corrasi (1,463 m). But each of the "Supramonte" has its own unique characteristics, with its own inimitable natural monuments.

This high limestone plateau is one of the wildest regions in Europe... and also one of the most mysterious. Water is scarce, but the fauna is varied: foxes, wild boars, mouflons, eagles and vultures... The deer, once king of the area, now lives under guard. This national park is of absolute ecological value. The Montes Orgoloso forest is the largest primary holm oak forest in Europe, extending over 1,050 hectares, in which, in addition to the old holm oaks that reach heights of up to 30 m, other tree species such as yew, holly, juniper, minor maple and arbutus have found their climatic optimum. The flora is rich in Mediterranean plants. Special mention should be made of the peony rose, a perennial with large purple flowers. It's a paradise for hikers, climbers and canyoning enthusiasts. You can hire a guide if you lack experience, as the Supramonte trails are not to be approached as a simple stroll. Don't hesitate to check your itinerary via a specialized app if you venture out without a guide, as the telephone network is poorly developed on the plateau... and it's easy to get lost. Wild, fascinating, bewitching!

The situation has evolved somewhat since the guide's comment: Now the paths to climb up the top of Corrasi are well traced, numbered, and you can easily go alone, with a little experience. The summit is quite dry, but you will pass through beautiful forests if you make the loop from the hotel restaurant Monte Maccione.
