MARCHÉ DE HONGQIAO
More commonly known as Hongqiao, or the «pearl market», although there are many other things, it is located in a large building of several old floors, facing the east door of the Temple of Heaven.
The ground floor of Hongqiao overlooks gadgets of all kinds, from the watch to the camera, to the cell phone case, to nail polish, to padlock and to toy toys.
On the first floor, they are handbags, as well as suitcases, pens and other leather goods (gloves, wallets etc.), clothing, silk scarves, pashminas, etc.
On the upper floor, there is a real cave of Ali Baba: Pearls and semi-precious stones of all colors (attention to coral is most often false and risk spreading over the long!) are aligned with hundreds of square meters. The necklace of your choice can be made immediately for a more than reasonable price. At the bottom, small antiques booths in which by searching well among the copies and usual local crafts without great value, you can find very nice pieces of terracotta or porcelain among others.
The top floor houses jewelry and objects that are slightly better presented, sometimes more expensive.
To make it simple: We go to practice his art of bargaining and try to find a somewhat original product to bring back to his knowledge. Special mention for cashmere pulls.
Little more: on the top floor, exit on the balcony (follow the signs "Rooftop") and there you will have a magnificent view over the Temple of the Skies. There is even a small café where you can enjoy a fresh drink…
