In an ancient imperial park of the Qing in 1906, when Empress Cixi brought 700 animals from Germany, the Beijing Zoo is one of the first modern zoos in Asia. The structure covering an area of ten hectares during its opening to the public in 1908 has grown over the years to reach fifty hectares. More than 500 animal species, 6,000 animals, are represented. A fine selection of rare species from all regions of China: Tibetan yaks, tigers, bears, sea turtles, great raptors and of course the famous giant panda.

The entrance stands at ¥40 but there is then unpleasant one surprised to discover paying portions inside even zoo. But there is not the most deplorable. The zoo Chinese capital is renowned, I expected something magnificent. Far from there. Many animals are emaciated and amorphous. The walls are unsuited and some are even dotted with refuses all sorts of launched by visitors (more scary being the brown bears). What about the polar bear whose walls is only one block of concrete with only a narrow green and stagnant water pool?
The great attraction zoo, on which they make the most of their offer, they are the giant pandas. I saw, indeed, dark corridor, behind a window which frantically scores of Chinese struck. To sum up, this environment made me nausea and I of it as quickly as possible, leaving side a good part of the visit, not daring even venture me on the side of the cats.
