GREAT AWAKENING TEMPLE
History
At the foot of Yang Tai Shan Hill, north of the perfumed hills, the temple was founded by the Liao in 1068 as the "Monastery of Clear Waters" (Qing Shui yuan). Then under the Jin, he counted among the eight most famous monasteries in the western hills under the name "Fabulous Source Temple" (Ling Quan Si). It is at Emperor Xuan De des Ming (1428) that he owes his current name.
Visit
On an area of 6,000 m ², its buildings descend on a slope of the hill, opening south.
If you visit a east-west axis, after crossing a beautiful stone portico, you will meet successively the Celestial Guardians Room (Tian Wang Dian), the Infinite Longevity Room (Wu Lian Shou Dian), and the King Dragon (Long Wang Tang) flag. These beautiful buildings and their annexes are harmoniously arranged and reflect different styles of architecture. Each contains samples of varied statuary and all dimensions. In domestic courts, in the middle of almost millennia old ginkgos and odorous magnolias, clear water springs are born. We will notice a commemorative stent, drawn up the very year of the founding of the temple and which, through its inscriptions worn through time, tells the whole story of the monastery.
In the course of the walk you will see a pond whose particularity is that on either side of the bridge, which encircles it, grows different colors: on the right, the lotus are white and on the left they are red. There's also a great stupa of white marble.
To the north of the Da Jue Si, you will see the peak of the Vultures (Jiu Feng) named because of the two large pine trees that grow at its summit, and then the wonderful mountains (Miao Feng Shan), a popular promenade of Chinese as expatriates because of the beauty of its site.
