Located at the northern end of Di 'anmen Dajie, built for the first time as a wooden tower at the time of the Yuan (in the center of their capital, Dadu), the tower of the Tambour was rebuilt in 1420 by Emperor Yongle (1402-1414) 24), under the Ming dynasty. From this massive tower made of red bricks and with a triple green roof, you will have a magnificent view of the old districts of Beijing, leading to a horizon of modern architecture. The Tower of the Tambour has its name of the 24 drums that it housed and that every two hours of the day and night (such as a clock), the Chinese associating an animal from the calendar to each couple of hours. You can only see one of these drums, unfortunately.

The tower of the drum in most cities of China. However, in Beijing, the view is particularly pretty (view of Houhai). Try to visit to the hours " shows" truly superb drums (every 30 minutes in summer... to check).
