PORTE TIAN'ANMEN
First known as Chengtian Men, this door was erected in 1417 as the entrance to the first Imperial Palace of Ming. Burned by lightning in 1456, she was reconstructed and renamed Tian 'anmen (or gate of Heavenly Peace). Burned and enlarged after the invasion of Mandchous, the current structure dates back to 1651 and adopts the architectural norms of the Qing dynasty. It looks like a large block of concrete painted in dark red, pierced at the base of 5 tunnel corridors that allow access to the Forbidden City, and overcome a wooden gallery with a double yellow roof. It was from this rostrum that President Mao proclaimed the founding of the People's Republic on October 1, 1949. It is a symbol of China, incarnated by Mao's huge «brand new» portrait of Mao, which is above entry, accompanied by the slogan «long life in the People's Republic of China». All year long, artists ensure the impeccable state of this historic canvas. Five marble bridges make it possible to cross the small stream (Gold Stream) that separates the door from Tian 'anmen Square… Streams that continue its race by snapping in the Forbidden City. The door has been open to the public since 1988. On both sides of this door, there are inscriptions, one in the east says: «Vive the union between the peoples of the world!» " and the other west: " «Vive la Peuple Populaire de China!» " On the right and left of the door are built of the stands that serve to welcome delegations during major events. " Good overview of Tian 'anmen Square.
