To the south of the Square and Mao Mausoleum is the door QianMen (front door). Formerly the main door of the ancient Chinese city, it was built in 1420 at the beginning of the Ming and renovated in 1977.

One of the few doors still standing after the destruction of the city walls in the 1950 s! It was designed in two parts to ensure maximum protection of the city: on the front, the Archers (Jian Lou) tower and, at the rear, the Porte (Zhongyang Men) door. Only the latter is open to the public.

Edifice imposant
Mall for shopping in the city centre. You will find all the Western brands including some shops " produits" typical Chinese (shoes, baguettes, etc.). If the parallel street is taken, maze of streets in Hutongs with restaurants and shops more " chinois".
