MUSEUM OF TRADITIONAL ARCHITECTURE
History
Located in the old temple of Xiannong (from the era of the Qing), or temple of agriculture, this is where the Ming and the Qing come to pray the god of agriculture, in order to obtain rain in sufficient quantity to guarantee them good harvests.
Visit
It consists of three parts.
The first part, in the Reverence Hall (Bai Dian), discusses the evolution of traditional architecture and materials used.
The second part, in the World Hall Jupiter (Tai Sui Dian), addresses different types of constructions: caves, bats, palaces and popular houses, agglomerations and towns, gardens and parks, tombs, temples and places of worship…
A zao jing, a painted wooden ceiling with a decor representing the cosmogonia of the 108 constellations with small-scale palaces and statuettes, will also be noticed. As well as a great model of Beijing as it was at the end of the Qing, a model of the Guang Ji Monastery Si, a wooden pagoda of the district of Yingxian, and many other very informative models about this Qing architecture.
In Part Three are explained different types of habitat such as Siheyuan, Shanxi House, pillow on piles, troglodyte housing…
