XU BEIHONG MUSEUM
For the communist doxa, the painting of Xu Beihong (1895-1953) symbolizes Mao's new regime. He is more known in the West under the name of Ju Peron, because it was the pseudonym he used to sign his paintings during his stay in Europe. He exhibited in Paris, Berlin and Moscow and tried to spread Chinese painting across borders. He still remains famous for his animated paints, like his birds in full flight and especially his horses in motion. It is said in China that his horses wanted to translate the revolutionary energy of the people through their vivacity…
He was director of the National School of Fine Arts and president of the Chinese Artists' Association in 1947. In addition to paintings by the artist himself, oil paintings, Chinese ink paintings and sketches covering six exhibition halls, the museum also finds its personal collection, including over 1,200 paintings on Roller, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing dynasties.
