NATIONAL AQUATIC CENTRE (WATER CUBE)
Set up in the Olympic Park, the «water cube» (♀ ╩) has a capacity of 17,000 seats and welcomed Mr. Phelps' achievements during the Beijing Olympics in 2008. At a cost of between EUR 100 million and EUR 150 million (and 6 human lives lost at the site…) the water cube was designed jointly by the Australian firm PTW and the British Arup. Inaugurated in January 2008, the water cube is resolutely ecological as it produces its own electricity and recycles rainwater. See the night to see the moon reflections on the air cushions that make up its exterior appearance.
