The railway station is built on a north/south axis. The East Ball (east) must be used for all trains leaving for Beijing (5 hours fast train) while the West Ball (west so) for all trains moving south, like Shanghai (7 hours fast train).
Beware, Qingdao has another railway station: the Nord train station (Qingdao Bei - ا) which also serves Beijing. Feel free to specify your departure or arrival station. Note that this station is also directly accessible by metro (same line).
