Here, seven of the nine emperors of the Northern Song Dynasty and the father of Emperor Taizong were buried, hence the name "seven emperors eight tombs" (Qidibaling) to designate these tombs in Chinese. The site covers an area of 15 km north-south and 10 km east-west. The whole was classified as a historic site in 1982.
