XIANGGUO MONASTERY
Located in the city center, it is one of the most famous Buddhist monasteries in China.
History. Established in 555 during the northern Qi dynasty, the temple was enlarged several times under the northern song by imperial edict. At its peak, this center of worship had 64 buildings and more than a thousand monks. Ravaged by the great flood of 1644, the ensemble was reconstructed under the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing in 1671.
Visit. On the vast site of more than 20,000 m 2, there are still many magnificent rooms. Among them, the Celestial Warriors Hall, the Mahavira Room (Da Xiongbao Dian), the octagonal room in ceramic tiles (Bajiao Liuli Dian), the Buddhist Scripture (Cangjing Lou), the Buddha room at a thousand thousand hands and thousand eyes (Qianshou Qianyan Fosi Dian).
The monastery was reopened with Buddhist worship in 1992, and the building of the towers of the Cloche and the Drum was taken into hand by the congregation.
