YANQING TEMPLE
Located within walking distance of the large Xiangguo monastery, east of Ziyou Lu (自由路), the main east-west axis of Kaifeng, this temple was erected in 1233 under the reign of Emperor Taizong of the Yuan, in honour of Wang Zhe, the founding father of Taoism Chuan Zhen. Only the pavilion of Jade Emperor (Yuhuang Ting), a 13 m dagoba of bricks, located in the centre of the site, is still standing today. It contains a marble statue of the Jade emperor, the benefactor of the sect. Side buildings are of recent construction.
One of the only buildings of this kind still visible in China today, certainly one of the most interesting visits of Kaifeng.
