SUOYANG RUINS

Founded in the first century. The strong town of Kugucheng, later renamed Suoyang from the name of a plant that had saved the beleaguered soldiers, experienced its hour of glory under the Tang. It was one of the largest bastides in Central Asia and was of major strategic importance on the silk road. The city then slowly declined, probably due to the lack of water, ruthless in the Désert desert. Today remains the ruins of the ramparts, a few walls still standing inside the enclosure. But the site is quite impressive.
