YUYUAN BAZAR
To access the Bazaar, you must pass under the traditional Chinese portico built at the junction of Henan Lu and Fang Bang Lu. The neighborhood, appeared in the nineteenth century, was once baptized Bazar of the temple of the protective god of the city. In its center, the Yuyuan Garden is one of Shanghai's most interesting sights. As his name indicates, the Bazar is a joyful merchant chaos, fixed and itinerant, some of which have been elected in very old houses with typical Shanghai architecture. The Bazaar is a place where we come to stroll, stroll in small shops, immerse ourselves in the atmosphere of the small alleys resounding the shouting of the merchants.
Negotiations are being made in order to buy objects in the Bazaar: prices must be divided at least by three before starting any negotiations. The Bazar houses many jewelers (a local belief wants the gold purchased near a temple of happiness), antique shops, a famous baguettes store throughout the city, fans of Liyunge. You can also find in the Bazaar all sorts of objects, postcards to watches through all possible gadgets and imaginable. The rates are somewhat higher than in the rest of the city, with the Bazar being a very tourist place. The place has become a species of Disneyland of old Shanghai, with hordes of tourists following very noisy megaphones. To get a real idea of what this neighborhood was, we have to get out of the pedestrian zone, and stroll, and get lost a little bit in the maze of the streets. All the interior of Renmin Lu (circular street built on the old ramparts of the city) is worth a long walk, which will help to discover local lifestyles, small street markets, the general ambiance of this small city that seems frozen over time.
