The residence is located north of Shanghai and surrounded by a large park also known as the Lu Xun Park. Lu Xun, the pen name of Zhou Shuren, is a Chinese writer of the twentieth century, revealed by his new La Truthful History of Ah Q, a satire of Chinese society. Lu Xun lived in Shanghai during the 1920 years of chaos between the late 1930 s and the early s, during which he was politically engaged in the ranks of the Communist Party of China. These activities forced him to move three times and then to go underground, but his life still centred around the Hongkou neighbourhood, which was, at the time, most writers and publishing houses. For security reasons, the house of Lu Xun was opened at the time only to his close friends or political partners. He settled in this dwelling only in 1932, and stayed there until the end of his days in 1936. In 1951, the government will classify it as the historic residence of Lu Xun in Shanghai, to the detriment of the other two homes he had occupied before.

The visit of this residence allows you to discover the style and organisation of a typical typically house at the beginning of the century. The original provision has been scrupulously respected and the furniture is authentic.

In the small store of souvenirs at the entrance of the residence, you can acquire beautiful lithographs from the writer. The tomb and memorial of Lu Xun are located in the park. The tomb was transferred to this location only in 1956, 20 years after the death of Lu Xun and the park was renamed the name of the writer. A statue of white marble dominates the mausoleum and a commemorative hall depicting the life of Lu Xun.

The Lu Xun Museum is especially interesting for those who can read Chinese and are really passionate about the history of this writer. Some pictures of Shanghai at the time are interesting, however, but the entire museum does not escape the nationalist propaganda that has recovered the writings and life of this writer for political purposes.
