TAIPING MUSEUM
A few minutes walk from the Quartier district, this former wangfu (Prince palace) is now home to a museum depicting the history of the Taiping heavenly Empire whose spiritual Leader, Hong Xiuquan, had installed the capital in Nanjing in 1851. The museum, first installed on the site of the Palais Palace on the Tangzi Jie in 1956, was transferred to the current address in the former residence of the Eastern Prince, Yang Xiuqing in 1958. The building also dates from the time of the Taiping, but the site has a much older history: The garden is built for the first emperor of the Ming Dynasty before becoming a private park, dependency of a private hotel.
Take advantage of the visit to take a tour in the few small antique shops located on the same street.
