MUNICIPAL MUSEUM OF NANKIN
The building itself is interesting, established during the Yuan dynasty, renovated and renamed Chaotian Gong by Emperor Zhu Yuanzhang des Ming in 1384, the current architecture dates from 1869 (Qing epoch). The Chaotian Palace served as a framework for the great ceremonies and official parades dictated by imperial rites (spring feast, winter solstice, emperor's birthday…).
The museum, opened in 1962, is dedicated to the history of the city. The funds, rich in over 60 000 pieces (models, printed books, works of art from ancient times to present times), are shown alternately on 1 000 m ²: pottery and jades of the Neolithic, the bronzes of the Zhou, Qin and Han dynasties, the porcelain of the famous Tang and Song times, the paintings and calligraphy Ming and Qing.
