The garden of retirement and meditation, covering an area of 700 m ², was built in 1886 by Ren Lansheng, a former official of the Qing Dynasty. The western part of the garden is reserved for residential districts and also includes a tea house. The eastern garden is dedicated to the gardens itself. The reception pavilions lie north of the complex, just opposite the pier overlooking the canal by which guests arrived in the residence. A large basin with marble boat is located in the heart of the whole, which seems to float on the water. In 2001, the garden was classified as World Heritage by UNESCO.
