GRAND CANAL
This book of art built under the Sui, crosses Wuxi over 15 km. It is the oldest and longest canal in the world. It stretches over 1 795 km and is an important communication route for the transportation of tea and grain to the capital still in service. A navigation on this one is a good way to discover the ancient city of Wuxi. Picturesque houses dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties align to the canals of the canals. To the south of the city, after the junction of Zhongshan Lu and Jiefang Nanlu, take Nanchang Jie and walk the canal over 500 m. The Qingming bridge built under the Ming (1368-1644) is one of Wuxi's wonders. In the north of the city, close to the bridge of Tonghui Xilu, the tiny island of Huangpudun, with a surface area of some square metres, is built on which the replica of a building of the old southern gate of the city is built.
