It is one of the four largest Islamic places of worship in China.
The origin of this mosque dates back to the Tang (618-906), during which China was very open to foreign religions. It was rebuilt in the th century thanks to a Persian patron. It bears this name because of its form of phoenix in its original version. The main hall was built under the Yuan in 1341. In the centre, a beautiful carved wooden box is found in an alcove of the wall.
