Three islands accessible by boat only follow the south of the lake. Ruangondun Island, the island of the centre of the lake, finally Xiaoying Island. The latter, built in 1607, is characterized by a bridge between basins populated with red fish.

Une vue différente sur le lac
Le fait de se rendre sur l'une des îles du lac de l'ouest permet de naviguer sur le lac et de le voir autrement. L'île Xiaoying est la plus grande, on y trouve notamment un monument dans l'eau avec trois petits édifices situés dans le lac, dont la représentation figure au dos du billet de 1 yuan.
