DONGQIAN LAKE
It is the largest freshwater lake in Zhejiang (21,5 km ², or four times the size of Hangzhou Lake). This artificial lake was built during the Tang Dynasty under the reign of Emperor Tianbao (477). In the vicinity of the lake lies the tomb of an emperor of the Northern Song, preceded by a sacred path flanked by 103 stone statues of infinite beauty, including officials, warriors, lions, tigers, horses, sheep.
Under the Tang, Dongqian Lake became a stronghold of Buddhism, and more than temples rose to surrounding hills during this golden age. To the south, you can go to the Thermes thermal baths and discover the magnificent scenery of the Yandang Mountains.
