DAZU CAVES

Here we find nothing less than thousands of Buddhist sculptures (more than 60 000) scattered throughout the county of Dazu. Classified in the Register of Historical Monuments, these works, dating from the Tang period (618-907) for the oldest and whose rupestre continued until the end of the Song period (960-1279), are among the finest Buddhist statues of Chinese art with Dunhuang, Luoyang and Datong.

Dazu has nearly 100 ensembles, the Sites sites (Northern Hill) and Baodingshan being the most visited because of their size and their state of preservation.
