WUSHAN HILL
Located in the south-east of the city, the Wushan Hill rises to 87 m. Also known as Minshan (hill Min, according to the name of the river) or Daoshan (the Sacred Lane Hill). This site is famous for the calligraphy of the hand of great characters in history (more than 200) carved out of rock and some dating back to the Tang era (618-907): Stone forest (Shilin) in familiar forms of turtle, dog, elephant, Guanyin… This park also includes many old buildings: the Pantuo Pagoda, the Stone Turtle, the bridge of the Celestial Platform (Tiantaijie) and places of worship (Daoshan pavilion, Grand Hall, La hall). The octagonal black pagoda (Wuta), also known as the Jianlaota (Sacrifice), was built in 941 and includes an internal road. This stone architecture was commanded by King Min's son under the Five Dynasties (907-960). The renovation and enhancement of these 36 treasures from Wushan Hill were undertaken between 1955 and 1980.
