THREE DEAD-END STREETS AND SEVEN ALLEYWAYS
Located in the old town, it offers a good overview of the region's architecture. The three impasses are Guanglu Fang (the impasse of the honorary Emolument), Wenru Fang (the Man of Letters) and Yijin Fang (the impasse of embroidered clothes).
The seven lanes are Jibi Xiang (Fortune Shelter Lane), Gong Xiang (Palace Lane), Ta Xiang (Pagoda Alley), Anmin Xiang (Quiet People's Lane), Huang Xiang (Yellow Lane), Langguan Xiang (Senior Official's lane) and Yangqiao Xiang (Poplar Alley).
Most of the remaining buildings in this area with whitewashed walls and blue-green roof roofs date back to the Ming and Qing periods. This is the most pleasant area in the city centre. It gives a little idea of what Fuzhou could be before the city opened.
